2nd Announcement

This is a second announcement for the conference on The Surface Composition of Mercury from Ultraviolet-Visible-Infrared Spectroscopy: State of the Art and Future Strategies” to bring you an up date and a reminder of deadlines.

Deadline for abstracts
March 31, 2009 April 15, 2009
Third announcement and program April 30, 2009
Deadline for registration April 30, 2009
Conference
June 3-5, 2009

The main rationale of the workshop is to stimulate the community to develop strategies for effective and timely interpretation of the reflectance and emissivity spectral data in terms of mineral composition and geologic significance.

  • • Mercury surface composition knowledge from past and current data. This major theme is split in several sub-themes:
    -Moon / Mercury correlations
    -Mercury Geology
-Ground Observations in the Vis-IR and thermal
-Messenger Results (MASCS, MDIS, GRNS; elemental composition)

• Methodologies and interpretative tools:
    -Laboratory simulation
    -Surface Weathering
    -Radiative transfer and surface photometry
    -Classification
    -Spectral Analysis
    -VO, data archiving
    -Geo-referencing and mapping

Presentations
We plan to have invited (30-40 minutes) and oral (15 minutes) talks.  Poster presentations are also encouraged.
